ANANDA
SHIPYARD & SLIPWAYS LTD. [ASSL], initially as Ananda Builders Limited
(ABL), had been instituted as an engineering company in 1983 by visionary Naval
Architect Dr. Abdullahel Bari and his wife Mrs. Bari on the bank of river
Buriganga on the periphery of Dhaka. In the year 1986 the shipyard had acquired
the present location on the bank of mighty Meghna in bid to successively grow
in terms of strength and facility. From then on a legacy of many historic
firsts in Bangladesh were set by the shipyard.
In
2005, Ananda received the first ever direct ship export order from Denmark.
"Stella Maris" made it on the record book as the first export from
Bangladesh on 15th May 2008. Since inception, the yard has undertaken various
projects secured through international tenders for the Government, funded by
the Govt. of Bangladesh and donors, and of inland and coastal vessels for
private owners.
The
quality of the works has been certified by reputed classification societies
(Member of IACS) & inspection agencies. In general, the shipyard has
satisfies the quality requirements as well as delivery schedules of clients.
Production
area comprises 80,000 sq. meters, of which 20,000 sq. meters are covered.
Yard's workshops are fitted with modern machineries and equipment. Shipbuilding
halls are fitted with EOTS and Slipways are fitted with gantry, cranes.
About 300 qualified & experienced personnel are leading a workforce of more than 1700 in the sections of lofting, cutting, welding, erection, fitting, woodworking, mechanical works, electrical works, painting and quality control, painting and thus producing reasonably modern quality vessels. in-house Computer Aided Design office provides designs & drawings to the shipyard.
In terms of equipment, manpower and experience the shipyard
ranks among the top shipyards in South Asia.

Shipbuilding
in Bangladesh can be traced to the medieval era that underwent gradual
expansion during the British colonial rule. At the start of the new millennium,
Bangladesh already had a basic shipyard industry and availability of skilled
workers. According to 'Bangladesh: Diagnostic Trade Integration Study' of the
World Bank (2013), export of commercial ships from Bangladesh in modern times
started in 2005. The exporters were Ananda Shipyards and Shipways Ltd. of
Dhaka.
